Make sure your computer is compatible
Before you dive into installing The Sims 4, make sure your computer can play it. EA lists certain requirements on their website and they’re pretty easy to meet. For example, if you want to run The Sims 4 at its highest settings. You’ll need a 3 GHz dual-core processor with 2 GB of RAM and 32-bit Windows XP/Vista/7. You can check out the full system requirements here (scroll down for Mac or Linux). If your computer can’t meet those criteria, no worries! You just have to lower some of your settings. Just plug in The Sims 4 and it will tell you exactly what hardware specs are needed to run it smoothly. Make sure your graphics card drivers are up to date: This one’s important. Your graphics card drivers control how well your graphics card runs games. This is why they must be always up to date. Graphics cards from Nvidia and AMD both have dedicated websites where you can download new drivers when necessary. Make sure that all other programs running on your computer aren’t affecting performance. Most computers come with a program called task manager that lets you monitor CPU usage.
And thus whether or not any particular program is hogging too much power. Task Manager usually lives in your Start menu under Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools. Open it up and take a look at what’s using most of your resources. If any programs are using more than 50% of your CPU, close them until you finish playing The Sims 4. Turn off unnecessary background services: Background services use extra memory without providing anything useful in return, so turning them off can help boost performance significantly.
