For the First Time in the Series’ History, Grand Theft Auto VI Will Star a Female Lead Character.

Rockstar, the company behind Grand Theft Auto, is trying to make a fresh start after a public scandal four years ago. Nevertheless, workers are uncertain whether or not it can continue to generate games of the same high quality for which the studio has become renowned. Although morale within the company is said to be higher than ever, the development of Grand Theft Auto VI has been slower than impatient fans and even long-time employees had expected. All signs point to Grand Theft Auto VI feeling very different from its predecessor, what with the company’s new direction and the departure in 2019 of Dan Houser, who led creative direction on many previous games.

The main character will be a lady.
According to those in the know, this will be the first game to have a female protagonist that players can control. In a story inspired by the true events of bank robbers Bonnie and Clyde, this Latina woman will play a pivotal role. According to the sources, unlike in previous Grand Theft Auto games, developers are taking extra care not to “punch down” by making jokes about marginalised groups.

We’re probably looking at a two-year wait for the game’s release.

Developers are sceptical that the next Grand Theft Auto will be released during Take-fiscal Two’s year (2024), which spans April 2023 and March 2024. Since 2014, the game has been in development in various forms. Although there are rough timetables in place, those who were interviewed for this article said they were unaware of a specific release date and estimated that the game would not be available for at least two years. A group of designers left Rockstar’s Edinburgh office earlier this year, complaining to their coworkers about the company’s lack of progress.

While Rockstar initially wanted to include much of North and South America, they were eventually restrained.

The codenamed Project Americas game was supposed to be larger than any previous Grand Theft Auto release. According to those familiar with the plans, the initial concept called for the inclusion of territories modeled after sizable chunks of both North and South America.

Although the new map currently depicts a made-up version of Miami, it will be updated to reflect reality in the near future.

The new map centers on a made-up version of Miami and its suburbs. Rockstar intends to regularly update the game over time, adding new missions and cities in the hopes that this will result in less crunch during the game’s final months. In spite of this, the game’s world is still quite sizable, and the timeline is affected by the presence of more interior locations than in previous Grand Theft Auto games.

Rumor has it that the next Grand Theft Auto will be set in a made-up version of Miami and the surrounding area. The developer’s original vision for the project was to create the largest GTA ever made. Early concepts even included regions in both North America and South America. Rockstar later reined in those ambitions, instead opting to expand the game with additional content, such as new cities, after its initial release. The game will feature more indoor settings than any other in the series.

In the 2024 fiscal year, Rockstar plans to release Grand Theft Auto VI (which could be anytime between April 2023 and March 2024). According to those familiar with the situation, development began as far back as 2014, but progress has been sporadic. Red Dead Redemption 2 was the last major release from the developer, and it came out for PS4 and Xbox One in 2018.

In response to the Bloomberg article, Rockstar has taken steps to eliminate its “frat boy” culture and reduce the frequency with which developers must work extra hours to meet deadlines. Company reforms include a new management structure and the dismissal of managers accused of “abusive” behaviour.
Employees at Rockstar have been vocal about the company’s toxic culture in 2018, but it seems that management has made significant efforts to improve things. As one worker put it to Schreier, Rockstar was “a boys’ club transformed into a real company.”

In addition, contrary to some of the more controversial features of earlier releases, employees have been warned against “punching down” against marginalised groups in their work. According to a recent Games Industry report, the company has decreased its gender pay gap and is making strides toward diversity and inclusion.
